Contactless current sensor features Triaxis Hall technology

The  Melexis MLX91206 is a customer programmable monolithic current sensor featuring TriaxisTM Hall technology. Designed to directly sense the current flowing in an external conductor, such as a bus bar or PCB track, the IC enables users to design small, economical current monitoring solutions with fast response times. 

The MLX91206 contactless current sensor consists of a CMOS Hall-effect integrated circuit with a thin ferromagnetic layer on its surface. The integrated ferromagnetic layer acts as a magnetic flux concentrator, significantly increasing the signal to noise ratio of the sensor. It senses current by converting the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the  conductor to a voltage proportional to the magnetic field. There is no upper limit to the measurable current level because the output level is dependant on the conductor size and distance from the sensor.

 

The MLX91206 sensor is especially suitable for DC and/or AC current measurements up to 90 kHz in applications that require galvanic isolation, very low insertion loss, fast response time, small package size and low assembly cost. It includes overvoltage and reverse voltage protection, including broken track diagnostics, and can be used as a stand-alone current sensor connected directly to a cable.

The characteristics (offset, gain, clamping levels and more) of the MLX91206 are fully customer programmable. A choice of linear (analogue) and PWM outputs is available. The linear output is suitable for applications requiring fast response (less than 10 μs), while the PWM output is suitable for applications that do not need high speed but do require high output signal robustness. Tiny logic analyser / signal generator is big on features

ScanaLogic2 from IKA Logic (distributed in the USA by Saelig) is a PC-based four-channel logic analyser and digital signal generator. It can generate digital signals and record responses on multiple channels with computer-independent performance at sampling rates up to 20 MSa/s and crystal-controlled timing accuracy.

ScanaLogic2 captures and analyses digital signals and enables users to sample, decode, display and analyse serial communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, 1-Wire, Maple bus, etc.). Support for additional protocols is regularly made available by free software updates. Built-in Fourier analysis (FFT) capability allows users to check the frequency spectrums of PWM signals while displaying them at the same time.

ScanaLogic2 can monitor logic levels on up to four digital signal lines, store the captured data in a file, or send the data over the Internet to other users. Images of signal timing plots, decoded data and markers can be captured, stored, and exported for report generation.

The dual view capability enables easy visual comparison of different data acquisitions. Recording and playing back serial data is as easy as recording audio. All four channels support signal generation and recording. In mixed mode, two channels can record while two channels are outputting a stored signal, and live scrolling supports refresh intervals of 50, 100 and 250 ms.

ScanaLogic2 provides a user-friendly syntax for signal generation that enables users to output digital data streams on four channels for tasks such as generating pulse-width modulated signals to control motors drivers, RGB LEDs or other devices, generating frequency modulated signals for testing speakers or ultrasound systems, or generating serial data and pulse trains for testing devices or equipment.

ScanaLogic2 supports 1.8-V, 2.8-V, 3.3-V and 5-V logic levels and works with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 interfaces without any need for drivers. The memory size is 256 K samples for each of the four channels. Users can assign colours to individual channels to simplify interpretation and analysis. Parameters and configurations can be auto-saved.

The ScanaLogic2 pod measures 64 x 38 x 13 mm and weighs less than 30 g.

Power management SOC boasts full set of features

The new P95020 power management IC from Integrated Device Technology is a system-on-chip device intended to be used in portable consumer products such as smartphones, portable navigation devices, mobile Internet devices and e-books.

According to IDT, the P95020 PMIC is the first of its kind to include a full set of system power regulation and management functions along with human interface subsystems, including audio and touch interfaces support. The embedded MCU is complemented by integrated peripheral subsystems including several switch-mode DC/DC converters and low-dropout voltage regulators, battery charge management, LED drivers, low-power stereo audio and voice codecs with mixer capability, a class D amplifier and headphone driver, a PLL for on-chip and external clock generation, and a touch screen controller. The MCU uses on-board system management resources, such as instrumentation SAR 12-bit ADC and a real-time clock, to provide optimum flexibility while reducing overall system power dissipation.

The embedded microcontroller of the IDT P95020 adds full programmability and flexibility to designs based on leading multimedia application processors. All functional blocks can be accessed over an I2C bus. The programmable voltage regulators meet the dynamic voltage adjustment requirements of application processors.
