Contactless current sensor features Triaxis Hall technology

The  Melexis MLX91206 is a customer programmable monolithic current sensor featuring TriaxisTM Hall technology. Designed to directly sense the current flowing in an external conductor, such as a bus bar or PCB track, the IC enables users to design small, economical current monitoring solutions with fast response times.

The MLX91206 contactless current sensor consists of a CMOS Hall-effect integrated circuit with a thin ferromagnetic layer on its surface. The integrated ferromagnetic layer acts as a magnetic flux concentrator, significantly increasing the signal to noise ratio of the sensor. It senses current by converting the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the  conductor to a voltage proportional to the magnetic field. There is no upper limit to the measurable current level because the output level is dependant on the conductor size and distance from the sensor.

The MLX91206 sensor is especially suitable for DC and/or AC current measurements up to 90 kHz in applications that require galvanic isolation, very low insertion loss, fast response time, small package size and low assembly cost. It includes overvoltage and reverse voltage protection, including broken track diagnostics, and can be used as a stand-alone current sensor connected directly to a cable.

The characteristics (offset, gain, clamping levels and more) of the MLX91206 are fully customer programmable. A choice of linear (analogue) and PWM outputs is available. The linear output is suitable for applications requiring fast response (less than 10 μs), while the PWM output is suitable for applications that do not need high speed but do require high output signal robustness. A thermometer output signal monitors ambient temperature.

Calibration can be performed after the sensor is attached to the conductor. Typical accuracy is better than

IBM unveils integrated photonic computer technology

IBM has unveiled a new chip technology that integrates electrical and optical devices on the same silicon die, paving the way for computer chips that communicate with light instead of electrical signals. This yields devices that are smaller, faster and more power efficient than devices fabricated using conventional technologies.

The new technology, called CMOS Integrated Silicon Nanophotonics (CISN),  is the result of a decade of development activities in IBM’s global research laboratories. It is expected to change and improve the way computer chips communicate, by integrating optical devices and functions directly on silicon chips, enabling over tenfold improvement in integration density.

IBM anticipates that CISN will open the door to exascale computing with supercomputers that can perform one million trillion floating-point operations (1 exaflop) per second. An exascale supercomputer would be approximately 1000 times faster than today’s fastest machines.

In addition to combining electrical and optical devices on a single chip, the new technology can be implemented on the front end of a standard CMOS fabrication line and requires no new or special tooling. This allows silicon transistors to share the same silicon layer with silicon nanophotonics devices. To make this possible, IBM researchers have developed a suite of integrated ultra-compact active and passive silicon nanophotonics devices, all of which are scaled down to the diffraction limit

Transparent solar power window technology unveiled

Researchers at New Energy Technologies developing a proprietary solar window technology are claiming scientific and technical breakthroughs, and in a few weeks they plan to unveil a working prototype of the world's first-ever glass window capable of generating electricity.

Conventional solar panels are opaque due to the use of metal coatings and various processes that prevent light from passing through the glass material. New Energy's transparent solar panel technology is based on tiny organic solar cells developed by Dr Xiaomei Jiang at the University of South Florida, which are one-quarter the size of a grain of rice and are able to generate electricity from both natural and artificial light. They also outperform conventional solar cell technology by up to ten times. The University of South Florida Research Foundation licensed Dr Jiang's research results and important commercial processes and applications to New Energy Solar Corporation.

In recent months, researchers at New Energy working on the development of transparent solar power coatings have achieved several important milestones, including demonstrating the use of the of the tiny solar cells to generate electricity and developing a novel, patent-pending process for spraying solar window coatings onto transparent glass using commercially available technologies. The spraying process can be used at room temperatures, eliminating the need for expensive high-temperature or high-vacuum production methods commonly used in conventional solar cell fabrication.

Bluetooth technology is very commonly used these days. Its main purpose is to make people's lives easy and for them to be able to experience comfort at the same time. Bluetooth headphones are just one example of the so many innovations that this bluetooth technology has brought to the world.

Bluetooth technology is very widespread today and present in almost all of the gadgets nowadays. It is found not just in bluetooth headphones but also in mobile phones, computers, personal digital assistants, and even in the wide range of devices that has already embraced the wireless connection.

With bluetooth, life is made easier as this technology takes away the cables and wires that ordinary wired devices provide as a big hassle. Without wires, you are then free to do more than the usual, and you can even do things anywhere you like to simply because of the wire free connectivity the bluetooth headsets bring. This innovation is created and meant for those people who are always on the move, since use of devices that still make use of the wired connectivity would definitely bring hassle to the users.

Imagine how easy it would be to listen to music through your headphones while you are busy doing other things such as exercising, or even when you are engrossed with schoolwork or office work for that matter. Also, you can even be in the middle of a conversation while walking around the office or at home. With the wireless technology brought about by the use of bluetooth headsets, lives of people are getting more comfortable and easy. Anyone is free to benefit from the use of this technology. From students to busy professionals, each can have the ease and comfort of this innovation in technology.

The wireless technology offered by the bluetooth headsets is indeed very appropriate for the lifestyle of many people these days. Every one seems to be very busy with a lot of things to do each day that it is really something big to be able to incorporate leisure with the important tasks that one has to do daily.  Through bluetooth headphones, one is able to experience such ease and comfort like never before.

With the unbeatable tandem of noise reduction technology and bluetooth headphones, the use of cellular phones has been greatly affected, as well as the users, too. Because of noise reduction technology, you can now make a conversation with anyone you like without worrying about the clarity of the sound.

Noise reduction technology was developed to minimize noise pollution due to aircraft and other noisy jet engines. But these days, noise reduction technology has been applied to bluetooth headphones, as well. This noise cancellation technology enables you to differentiate the sound produced by the headphones from the noise coming from the external environment. It provides greater convenience for the user and gives greater satisfaction, too.

Bluetooth headsets with noise reduction technology silence the noise by creating a sort of anti-noise barrier which greatly helps in reducing the noise from the external environment. There are bluetooth earphones that greatly reduce noise such as the sound of the airconditioner of your room or the sound of the plane's engine.  Through noise reduction technology in your headphones, comfort and safety can be ensured.

In addition to this, over-the-head headphones with noise reduction technology effectively reduce the noise from the environment. If you want a portable and handy headphone, you can also choose in-the-ear headphones that look very much like earplugs. They also greatly block the noise from the external environment.

With this kind of technology, there is no need for you to crank up the volume just so you could hear what you want to hear and overshadow the noise from the environment. Noise reduction technology in bluetooth wireless headphones provides very satisfactory attenuation of noise from the background. Noise reduction technology helps reduce the probability of having to damage your eardrums. These kinds of headphones with noise reduction technology, then,  are well-suited for people who are always on the go.

There are several models and brands of bluetooth earphones to choose from. Just to mention a few, here are some of the known bluetooth headsets with noise reduction technology:  Eliph Jawbone, Jabra BT800, Blueant Z9, Jabra 8040, and the Plantronics Voyager 520.

In choosing which one to buy, it is important that the bluetooth headphones suit you very well. It can be the type that describes you the best or just a simple gadget that adds color to your personality.
