Nonvolatile voice/audio IC with integrated phone functions

Nuvoton Technology Corp. has introduced the ChipCorder ISD61S00, a nonvolatile voice/audio IC optimised for telephony systems. The device provides a digital audio interface, audio storage interface, macro scripting ability and programmability, allowing designers to develop telephony-based systems with audio prompting, multi-language options, and fast, address-free recording and playback with a capacity of up to 64 minutes.

The ISD61S00 can perform communications functions such as detection and generation of DTMF signaling and FSK for Bell 103, Bell 202 or V.23 modems. It additionally offers a PSTN interface, customer alert signal detector, call progress tone detection, and ring detection. Other features include echo cancellation, a PCM/I2S digital audio interface, and 16 general-purpose I/O pins accessible via the device's SPI ports. Technical specifications include sampling rates up to 16 kHz, 90 dB SNR (typical), 0.5 W maximum dissipation, and an operating voltage range of 2.7 to 3.6 V.

The ISD51S00 is designed to offer high-quality single-chip voice record/playback solutions for embedded applications. Typical applications include voice prompting, alerts, interactive menus, and voice memos for consumer, industrial and security products. Pre-recording services make it easy to add voice to system designs.

The ISD61S00 is packaged in a 48-pin LQFP and is sampling now, with production scheduled for the third quarter.
